Sample Vietnam Trekking/Hiking Tours

Vietnam offers lots of beautiful places for trekking, hiking lovers. Trekking destinations can be found in all the three regions of Vietnam - the North, the Center and the South. The most popular destinations for hiking are located in the northern Vietnam such as Sapa, Mai Chau, Bac Ha, Lai Chau, Ha Giang and Cao Bang...

Sapa is the number one place where both Vietnamese and foreign tourist come to for trekking, hiking. Sapa offers beautiful scenery, terraced rice fields, rich ethnic cultures, customs and traditions. Sapa is also easily reached by railway. The overnight train trip makes the tour cost lower and help travelers save two more days as well.

Mai Chau is in a valley just over the biggest hump, about 10km from the Song Da river and only 150 metres above sea level. The village presents an idyllic rural valley that could easily charm you into staying longer than intended. Nestled between two towering cliffs and surrounded by emerald green paddies, it is an enchanting sight as you wind down the cliff side. Mai Chau is no longer a new destination for trekker and hiker. But the life is slow and peaceful. Lotussia Travel offers different trekking options in Mai Chau ranging from half-day treks to multi-day hike.

Ha Giang is one of the most varied treks, its rocky mountains separated by rivers, valleys and terraced paddy fields. The woods around the area provides walkers a mini-safari, so you shouldn’t be surprised to see peacocks and tigers while you’re traipsing through.

The Pu Luong Nature Reserve, belonging to Cuc Phuong mountain range, the largest remaining area of lowland limestone forest in northern Vietnam, is an important example of Limestone Karst, ecosystems renowned for their complexity, richness and beauty. Trekking tours to Pu Luong national park can be arranged in three or four days. The tours should be arranged with a Hanoi based tour operator who will provide transfer from Hanoi to Pu Luong Nature reserve, an English-speaking tour guide, local porter, cook and other necessary trekking equipments.

Bac Ha is much less developed for tourism than Sapa. It is in an ideal location for off-the-beaten-track treks to visit colourful weekly markets. The Can Cau and Bac Ha markets, in particular, feature local scenes that have been going on every week for generations, where cattle, horses, goats and dogs are bought and sold, as well as many traditional goods like saddles and plowshares, along with elaborate textiles, handbags and other trinkets made by the local tribes people, the Flower Hmong. Trekking tours in Bac Ha can be arranged in half day, one day, two days, three day or even longer. Trekking routes are the trails linking different hill tribe villages. For a half day hiking tours, Ban Pho is the nearest village. The village is inhabited by H’mong people. For those who would like to spend longer time in Bac Ha, they can have three or four-day trek to Lung Khau Nhin, Na Cap, Quan Than San or to Ha Giang tribal villages.

The Cao Bang province offers a wide selection of tours such as trekking tours, bicycle tours, motorcycle tours and sightseeing culture tours. Travelers are easily impressed by the wild beauty of the nature and the beautiful landscape of Cao Bang. The most popular Cao Bang trekking tours are arranged in Quang Hoa district, in the eastern area of Cao Bang. Many guided trek tours are provided with departure from Hanoi. Only three days or four days are needed to do the trek. The trekkers will go through local Tay and Nung villages, walk on the foot of karst mountains, sleep in the local house and eat local food.

Cuc Phuong National Park is the centerpiece of Vietnam’s conservation efforts and one of the most accessible parks in the country. Vietnam’s largest and first national park, Cuc Phuong beauty and a few of its thousands of species of plants and animals can be seen with the help of a local park ranger. Dozens of trails cut through the forest and can be used for simple hikes for an hour or two day treks through the forest. Trekking options include loop trails that take only a few hours of moderate walking to a two day trek across the park.

Lai Chau province offers a wide selection trekking, hiking tours ranging from a day trekking tours to multi-day treks.
