Day 01: Ha Noi - Lao Cai

Depart at 20.30pm from your hotel. Overnight on AC Soft Sleeper Hanoi - Lao Cai train.

Day 02: Hanoi - Sapa - Soft trek

Arrive at Lao Cai train station at about 6.30a.m. 2.5hrs bus trip 40km to Sapa, on the way, the bus may stop for some pictures of hill trebles and rice fields along the road. After breakfast is free time for walking around Sapa Town, Sapa Market. In the afternoon, 2hrs trekking 5km to visit Cat Cat Village, homeland of Black H’mong hill tribe. Meeting & talking with locals to learn more about their daily life.

Day 03: Sapa - Su Pan - Ban Ho - Nam Tong

The day commences with a short jeep ride to the trekking route. The trek starts by walking through the incredibly scenic 'Ban Ho' Valley. Here you will have the opportunity to visit and explore the wooden houses, which traditionally belong to the Tay & Zday Ethnic Minority, picnic lunch on the way. You will then continue to walk to Nam Toong Village, where you will be able to observe the fascinating daily life of the Red Zdao Hill Tribe. Dinner at Ban Ho Village.

Day 04: Ban Ho - Su Pan - Hau Thao - Sa Pa

You wake up to the sound of pigs, chickens and the family dog. The family is already on their feet preparing for your breakfast. After breakfast, you will go to Su Pan Village - a village of Tay People, then take a car back to Sapa Town. On the way you will visit Hau Thao Village - home to Black Mong Hill Tribe, meeting and talking with local hill tribes to learn more about their daily life, customs and traditional habits. Have lunch at local restaurant in Sa Pa Town. Fee time untill departure to Lao Cai train station at 16:30 pm. Dinner at restaurant and take a night train back to Ha Noi.

Day 05: Arrival Hanoi

Arrive in Hanoi early morning. Meet up again by Lotussia driver and transfer to your hotel in Hanoi or transfer to airport for your onward flight.

What better way to really discover the country you are traveling in than to stay amongst its people and experience their lives and culture first hand. Indigenous home stays are part of a growing trend in cultural and eco-tourism that serve to benefit both the tourist and the local community.

Sapa is a small market town that has been a gathering spot for many local hilltribes for nearly 200 years. Hmong and Dao people, among others, still come here to conduct trade, socialize, and attend an ephemeral "love market," where young men and women choose one another for marriage (these days, it's unlikely you'll see anything more than a staged re-creation of it). But seeing this as early as 1860, French missionaries said "Mon Dieu!" and set up camp to save souls; their stone church still stands sentinel and is well attended at the center of town. Sapa, with its mercifully cool climate, became a holiday escape for French colonists, complete with rail connection, upscale hotels, and a tourist bureau as early as 1917. The outpost was retaken by the Vietnamese in 1950, attacked and destroyed later by the French, and left in ruin, only brief occupied by Chinese troops in 1979. The town reopened for tourism in the 1990s.

Now connected by luxury train with Hanoi, Sapa boasts good accommodations and is a great jumping-off point for trekking and ecotours. Even a 1- or 2-day trip, bracketed by overnight train journeys from Hanoi, will give you a unique glimpse of local hilltribe culture. Trek out to nearby villages with, or meet with the many hilltribe people who come to town to sell their wares.
