Cau Vong Festival – Bac Giang

Cau Vong Festival is held on the 16th January of the lunar year in Tan Yen District, Bac Giang province to honor the martial tradition, revolutionary heroes of the historic land of Cau Vong (means “Rainbow”).

The Festival is held once every five years on January 16th, 17th of lunar year, to review the heroic traditions of its predecessors, which eternally enrolled in the heroic historic pages of the nation and at the same time, to preserve the local typical cultural heritage.

The Cau Vong Festival on the Cau Vong land is the quintessence convergence of the historic and cultural tradition belongings to 24 communes and towns in Tan Yen district.

The Festival consists of two parts, the ceremony is held solemnly with the incense offering at the Tan Yen district’s memorial heroes and martyrs monument. The next is the procession of the flag printed the name of heroes and talented people right in the communal house’s courtyard. With the typical cultural values of Tan Yen land, this festival is recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015.

During the festival days, happening many activities of sports competitions and games such as: Spring flying trapeze, tug of war, walking in stilts, jumping with the legs inside big bags, chess, cooking rice contest, passing the foot bridge, the art show of workers, ethnic wrestling competition, and other competitions of sports such as: Women’s football, Men’s volleyball, Elders’ steam volleyball…

Experiencing the ups and downs of history, the Cau Vong Festival has made a bold mile stone in the cultural and spiritual life of Yen The ancient land and present Tan Yen land. At the same time, the festival praises the strength of the village community, creates the connection between the past and present, and contributes to traditional education for the younger generation in the construction and protection of the country.
