Dzao Dancing Festival

The Dzao Dancing Festival is a traditional festival of the Dzao ethnic group in the northern region of Vietnam. The festival is held from the 15th to the 27th day of the 12th lunar month, but it varies among different subgroups of the Dzao. The Dzao Tien people organize the festival for 13 days, while the Dzao Quan Chet people celebrate it for only one day. The festival is a way to thank the gods, the ancestors, and the founder of the Dzao people, Ban Vuong, for their blessings and protection. The festival also involves various rituals, such as naming ceremonies for men and offerings to the spirits.

The main feature of the festival is the dance performance, which consists of 120 turns of dances with different meanings and patterns. The dancers wear colorful costumes and accessories, and use props such as drums, gongs, knives, swords, and flags. The dances are accompanied by folk songs that tell the stories and legends of the Dzao people. The dances are also a form of entertainment and socialization for the villagers, who join in the fun and joy.
