Song Xanh Sampan Cruise 3 Days Itinerary is an inspirational package that we have designed in partnership with Victoria Cruises for travelers to experience the real life of Vietnamese people living along the Mekong River.
This 3 days 2 nights trip begins from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), offering the chance to experience the real life of local people in Cai Be, Sa Dec, and Chau Doc. The cruise is completed in Chau Doc, from there travelers may like to extend their holidays with a speed boat trip to Cambodia.
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be – Sa Dec.
You will be picked up by our local team at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City at 8:00 am and transferred by road to Cai Be. The 2 night cruise begins from Phu An Jetty at 10:00 am. Welcome aboard the Song Xanh Sampan with chilled towels and a refreshing drink as the boat begins its leisurely cruise on the river.
Head ashore at local cottage industries that use products from the Mekong Delta region like rice and coconuts to make tasty snacks including puffed rice and chewy coconut candy. The following stop is a traditional brick factory. Then, visit the historic house of “The Lover”, a real-life character in the acclaimed novel and film by Marguerite Duras.
Enjoy your night aboard Song Xanh Sampan as it moors on the Mekong River.
Day 2: Sa Dec – Long Xuyen – Phu Tan.
Breakfast is served on board as the boat cruises towards Long Xuyen, along narrow canals, past several rustic monkey bridges, and peaceful countryside scenes.
The boat stops in Long Xuyen to visit the Tiger Island, located in the middle of Hau Giang river near Log Xuyen. This river is a tributary of the Mekong. The island was formed by silting. After many years of accumulation of the Hau River silt, this fertile island was formed. Aquatic plants, such as rushes and reeds, surrounded the island.
Return to the sampan and enjoy your dinner while the boat makes its way to Chau Doc, close to the border with Cambodia. Settle down for your second night aboard the Song Xanh Sampan.
Day 3: Phu Tan – Chau Doc.
Breakfast is served on board while your sampan cruises towards Chau Doc. Known throughout Vietnam for its pagodas and temples, Chau Doc is also famous for the Tra Su Bird Sanctuary, a superb eucalyptus mangrove.
Disembark at Victoria Chau Doc pier at approximately 10:00 am. Trip ends.
Cruise itinerary and schedule are subject to change due to weather, tide levels and operating conditions. Swimming or kayaking excursions may be cancelled due to poor weather.
Meals on board are fusion. Vietnamese and international. Guest should advise of any special food reference, allergies or dietary requirement at least 1 week prior to the cruise date.

For some itineraries, the role of tour leader and representative is combined.

Lotussia Travel carefully choose all the hotels, guest-houses or home-stays based on service quality, location, and characteristics, doing best to make the accommodations in the remote small places as comfortable as possible. Please bear in mind that hotels in Vietnam might not be in the same standard in other country. Generally hotels in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Hoian, Hue…are much better than hotels and guest-houses in mountainous areas.
Lotussia Travel take dinning as an indispensable experience to clients since it is an important part in Vietnamese culture. Therefore, Lotussia Travel will not intend take clients to the most expensive restaurants but non-touristy local ones which offer delicious, local food, with nice or interesting atmosphere. The restaurants might be simple in the country but LOTUSSIA Travel guarantee is sanitary and cleanliness. Or even on our trek, we encourage our cook offer client food with new tastes from day to day. During adventure itineraries to mountainous or remote areas, there is sometimes no choice for hotel and restaurants. We will try our best to bring you the best taste of local food.
As the tap water in Vietnam is undrinkable, Lotussia Travel recommend clients to drink bottled water throughout your trip, or boiled water on treks. Lotussia Travel offers bottle water all the day, and soft drinks like Cola, Sprite or Vietnamese Tea or if possible juice in restaurants (if mentionned in itinerary). This is not automatically included in the packages. In simple restaurant or on camping, Lotussia Travel offers boiled water, instant coffee or juice, wrapped milk (Details are confirmed in bottom of your itinerary).
In most destinations of Vietnam, all the roads are well paved though the traffic is quite messed up like in Hanoi, Hai Phong… We use proper vehicles, car, minibus or coach in good condition based on the size of the groups. We use 4WD only on the rough road where the other vehicles could not pass through or based on clients requirement on overland journeys or treks. For cycling itineraries, we usually use our support minibus or minibus with support truck. For sea kayaking, river rafting trips, diving packages we use standard boat as support. Detailed information is provided on our service proposal.
We use drivers who are native or local of each travel destination and maintain good safety records for all trips. Most of our drivers can speak English but a little bit. This is just enough to understand basic words such as “time of departure”, “stop”, “restaurants”, “hotels”…If you want to learn more about Vietnamese culture and information about sightseeing sites, booking a tour guide is highly recommended.
