Vung Tau City Vietnam
Vung Tau City is the largest city and former capital of Ba Ria Vung Tau Province in Vietnam. The city area is 140 square kilometres (54 square miles), consists of thirteen urban wards and one commune of Long Son Islet. Vung Tau was the capital of the province until it was replaced by the much smaller Ba Ria city on 2 May 2012. The city is also the crude oil extraction center of Vietnam.
Located on Vung Tau Peninsula, about 100km to the south-east of Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau City is one of a few places on the mainland where can admire sunrise and sunset on the sea.
When to visit?
There are two seasons including the dry season starting from November until April of the following year, and the rainy season from May to October. During the dry season, it is dry and slightly cooler during the winter months and the Tet Holiday. Gets hotter in Apr.
In the rainy season, it is rainy, but less so than Ho Chi Minh City. Usually hot from 12:00-15:00. Summer is ideal for seaside frolics.
What to explore in Vung Tau?
With 20km of the coastline the city has many beautiful beaches such as Truoc (Front), Sau (Back), Vong Nguyet, Dua (Pineapple). The destination is ideal for sea bathing and leisure.
Besides, the city also houses many unique historical and cultural relics such as the Lighthouse, Jesus Statue, Niet Ban Tinh Xa Pagoda, Thich Ca Phat Dai Pagoda, Long Son Large House. The harmonious combination between natural landscape, urban architecture and cultural works creates the city’s own attractiveness.
Traveling to Vung Tau visitors will be attracted by several traditional festivals such as Nghinh Ong (Whale Worshiping Festival), Thang Tam Commune House, Ngu Hanh Shrine…
The city also hosts the annual International Kite Festival with the participation of many domestic and international kite artisans.
