Da Bac Hoa Binh is a mountainous district of Hoa Binh Province offering off the beaten path jungle trek, hiking, trekking homestay, road cycling holidays, mountain bike tour, boat trips, motorbike, motorcycle tours from Hanoi. Da Bac district is located the northwest Vietnam, about 3 hour drive from Hanoi.

Da Bac district covers an area of 779 km2. It contains 1 township and 19 communes including Da Bac, Cao Son, Doan Ket, Dong Chum, Dong Nghe, Dong Ruong, Giap Dat, Hao Ly, Hien Luong, Muong Chieng, Muong Tuong, Suoi Nanh, Tan Minh, Tan Pheo, Tien Phong, Toan Son, Trung Thanh, Tu Ly, Vay Nua, and Yen Hoa.

Getting to Da Bac

The best way to get to Da Bac from Hanoi is to rent a car with driver. You will be picked up at your hotel in Hanoi and brought to Da Bac. There are also public buses from Hanoi to Da Bac. Booking a guided tour is highly recommended. An English-speaking guide will be helpful in a such off the beaten path place in Hoa Binh province Vietnam.

1st route

From Hanoi, take Thang Long avenue, then turn left onto Xuan Mai town and follow Highway 6 to Hoa Binh City. It is then a further 15km to Da Bac. This route is about 95km and takes 2-3 hours.

2nd route

From Hanoi, take Thang Long Avenue through Ba Vi, Che town and then take the ferry at Hop Thinh before driving to Da Bac. This route is about 110km and takes 3.5 hours by car. Despite being a longer route, this route is more scenic than Route 1.

When to go

Da Bac is warm year round with an average temperature of 26.7C. Rainfall is heavy during the summer months from May until September. 1721mm of rain is spread over one hundred sixty days of the year. The sunshine during the day varies during the spring, summer and fall months. The humidity is the lightest during autumn, winter and spring.

The best time to travel to Da Bac district should be the winter time, lasting from October to February. As the Vietnam weather is very cold in Da Bac, this period of time is suitable for exploring hot springs and relaxing yourself with the warmly mineral water in Kim Boi. Also, the winter coincides with the dry season in Da Bac Hoa Binh, so that travelers have more chance to go around and contemplate natural beauty of Hoa Binh’s non-touristy region.

What to do

Da Bac is both a natural and cultural destination in the northwest Vietnam. Just about 3 hour’s drive from Hanoi, Da Bac’s verdant countryside and mountains offer limitless possibilities for nature explorations as well as visits to many fascinating ethnic hill-tribe villages.
