Cam Son water flow is originated from Huu Lung district, Lang Son province; when coming to Luc Ngan, it is prevented to form a lake. Locating at the height of about 300m compared with the sea level, Cam Son lake is the fourth biggest irrigational construction of the whole country (after Dau Tieng lake in Quang Ninh, Phu Ninh lake in Quang Nam and Ke Go lake in Ha Tinh). With the area of about 2,650ha, the length of about 25km, the width at the widest place of about 7km, Cam Son lake is the enormous air conditioning plant for Luc Ngan. Thanks to the lake, the climate in the region is temperate all year round, cool; at the same time, the lake provides the main irrigational water for agricultural production of Hai Duong and Bac Giang provinces.

Cam Son lake has the capacity of about 248m3. In the dry season, when there is no water in the lake, grounds of alluvial soil appear, which is made use of by local people to grow corns and fruits. In the raining season, the lake surface is spread with hundreds of big and small islands. Surrounding the lake are high green, rough and endless mountains. The beauty of sky, clouds, mountains and water is in harmony with each other to create a poetic and attractive scene, like a small Ha Long bay. With the charming mountain and water beauty, Cam Son is an inspiration for musician Pho Duc Phuong to compose the famous song “Ho tren Nui” (Lake in the Mountain).

Besides abundant natural resources, Cam Son has unique cultures of Tay, Nung, Dao, San Chay and San Chi communities. Coming here, tourists will have chance to contemplate houses on stilts with smoke looming after hill slopes and forests; to listen to fervid Sli and Soong Hao songs; to see down-the-field, season praying, new year, new house festivals and to enjoy hot wine of the community…; especially to mix with romantic space in boat stations – a unique cultural character of Cam Son. In early mornings or late afternoons, hundreds of boats transport goods in the lake surface. Fairs with all goods such as che lam (made from ground glutinous rice), seven color sticky rice, pork, mountain chickens, fruits… held in the lake surface, which creates multi-color scene in the mountainous region.

The most suitable time to contemplate the scene and space of Cam Son lake surface when it is blue with shadow of mountains, forests and grasses are in early mornings and late afternoons. The lake surface at that time is twinkle in sun rise or in sun set with some boats; tourists will be touched with melancholy….
